Verbal Behavior Program

(ABA/VB)

A common skill deficit for children diagnosed with autism or similar disorders is language or communication. Our VB program will focus on getting a child to realize that language will get him what he wants, when he wants it. Requesting is often one of the first verbal skills taught; children are taught to use language to communicate, rather than just to label items. Learning how to make requests also should improve behavior. Our program focuses on the folowing

  • Manding (Requesting)

  • Tacting (Labeling)

  • Receptive Language (Following directions)

  • Visual Performance (Match-to-sample)

  • Vocal Imitation (Echoic)

  • Motor Imitation (Imitating motor actions)

  • Intraverbal (Answering “wh” questions)

  • Self-help skills

  • Academic Skills

  • Appropriate Play Skills

  • Fine Motor and Gross Motor Skills

Our therapists first begin by conducting a skill assessment (VB-MAPP) to determine which areas are lacking and which, if any, have been achieved for a typically-developed child of the same age.  A program is developed based on the results of the skill assessment and 1:1 therapy is provided by a trained behavior therapist.
